Asian stocks closed down

JAKARTA: Asian stocks went down in the closing session today following Fed Chairman Ben S. Bernanke's speech on possible additional buying of bonds by the US central bank.Nikkei slipped on stronger yen but mining stocks flourished. Sumitomo Metal Mining, Japan's biggest gold producer, rose 3.4%. Nikkei lost 5 points to close at 10,180, PT Monex Investindo Futures, a futures company, said in its review this afternoon.Korea's Kospi weakened by 40 points to 257.70, including Hyundai slid 1.6% after Government of South Korea announced declining tariffs on US car imports. Hang Seng dropped 97 points to 23,173 on Beijing's plan to halt housing crefit facility to state enterperises whose main businesses are not on real estate. (NOM)
