RI-Japan cooperates in US$20 billion project

NUSA DUA, Bali: Indonesia and Japan target the joint project for infrastructure development in Jabodetabek area to start in 2013 with investment value of 2 trillion yen or US$20 billion fund.The project is a part of an agreement on Metropolitan Priority Area (MPA) project that will also involve a number of cities, such as Medan, Surabaya, and Makassar. Thus, as Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa stated, both countries will soon set up a director and technical team for the project implementation in 2013.Memorandum of Understanding on MPA project was signed between Indonesias Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs and Japans Foreign Affairs Minister, Sieji Maihara, in Nusa Dua, Bali, today.Furthermore, other development projects under the project include Mass Rapid Transportation (MRT), new airport and harbors, toll roads, sanitation networks, and electricity in Jabodetabek region.Meanwhile, the project, as Hatta confirmed, is aimed to enhance the accessibility and capacity since the region serves as main economic and manufacturing zone in Indonesia.First phase of Jabodetabek project is predicted to complete by 2020 at 2 trillion yen of investment or around US$20 billion, he said.
