Fuel use limitation to be delayed three weeks

JAKARTA: The government confirmed that subsidized fuel use limitation will be delayed three weeks from initial schedule in early January 2011.The government also ensured Jakarta, Bogor, Depok, Tangerang, and Bekasi (Jabodetabek) will the first area to which the fuel limitation policy will applied.The limitation of subsidized fuel will be realized in the third week of January, said Coordinating Minister of Economic Affairs Hatta Rajasa, at a working meeting with the Houses VII Commission, today.The same point was uttered by Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Darwin Zahedi Saleh that PT Pertamina is ready to apply the policy of limiting gasoline use in Jabodetabek area starting on January 15, 2011. Meanwhile, in July 2011, the fuel limitation policy will be applied to subsidized diesel fuel.For Java-Bali region, Darwin explained that the subsidized gasoline use limitation will be valid in July 2011, while October 2011 it starts with limitation on subsidized diesel fuel. Furthermore, the policy implementation in other regions will start in 2012, covering Sumatera and Kalimantan, and in 2013 for Sulawesi.Hatta also confirmed that if the policy is realized gradually as scheduled, thus the subsidy budget can be curbed up to IDR3.8 trillion a year. Yet, if the policy is postponed, the government will require an additional subsidy of IDR316 billion a month. (T01/NOM)
