Asian stocks drop triggered by Korean tension rise

JAKARTA: All Asia Pacific Indices dropped, triggered by the escalating Korean tension. The MSCI Asia Pacific Indek sank 0,8% to 132,54 at 12:19 in Hong Kong, while South Koreas Kospi declined 1%.Japans Nikkei 225 Stock Average lost 1% and Hong Kongs Hang Seng Index dropped 1.1 percent.The South Koreas authorities are now paying closing attention to the market to cool down any disruptions caused by such dispute. As quoted by Yonhap News Agency, South Koreas Defense Ministry planned to hold a live-fire drill in the disputed western border with Pyongyang after 1 p.m. on Monday."The military has decided to conduct the firing drill today (Monday)," said an official from Joint Chiefs of Staff, adding the exercise will be held south of the inter-Korean maritime border. "The exact time for the firing drill will depend on the weather conditions around the island area."According to the reliable sources, the South Koreas Finance Ministry and some economic agencies have launched tightened market monitoring as anticipative measures.Such measure taken by South Korea tailed the similar attack made by North Korea few months ago, killing four people including two civilians. Ever since, the South Koreas armies have intensively conducted military training with US (Joint Chiefs of Staff). (t02/wiw)
