Banking stocks drag down JCI by 0.85% at midday break

JAKARTA: Indonesian stocks tumbled 0.85% to 3,551.04 at midday break today from the closing last weekend.Jakarta Composite Index (JCI) moved within the range of 3,537.67-3,591.29.Of 420 stocks listed in Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX), only 35 surged while 157 fell and 228 unchanged.Bank Central Asia led the banks dragging down the index, plunging 7.26 points. The stocks contributing negatively included Bank Mandiri with 6.18 points, Bank Rakyat Indonesia with 5.08 points, and Perusahaan Gas Negara with 2.16 points.Meanwhile, the shares restraining the index from plunging further included Adaro Energy, which gained 9.51 points, followed by Astra International with 3.13 points, Dian Swastatika with 0.92 points and International Nickel Indonesia with 0.89 points.Six of nine industry groups in IDX contributed to the drops in the index. Finance sector gave the largest portion to the drops with 86.22%, followed by basic industry and chemical with 15.18%, infrastructure and utility with 12.14%, and construction property with 11.76%.As JCI slid, BISNIS-27 Index also fell 2.22 points or 0.71% to 311.09 at lunch break today. BISNIS-27 Index moved within the range of 309.15-314.56. (t04/wiw)
