Big freeze leads to flight disruption across Europe

JAKARTA: The temperature continues to drop as the snowfall still hit the European countries, such as UK, Germany, France and Netherlands.In London, according to the data compiled bu Bisnis, Heathrow Airport operated a reduced flight schedule due to the big freeze, which had engulfed the country since last Friday.Heathrow allowed passengers to access regular updates via Twitter, iPhone/Android mobile apps and flight text service.Hundreds of passengers slept in airports as they waited for their cancelled flights to be rescheduled.Further snow is forecast across Europe today and there may be further delays and cancellations of some flights from and to Heathrow.British Airways canceled nearly half of its flights today. Flight delays and cancellations also occurred at Frankfurt Airport.Dutch authorities imposed a 50km/h (30mph) speed limit on a number of motorways, while icy, snowy roads also caused traffic problems across Sweden.Eurostar today conducted a speed restriction that added up to two hours to journey time.
