JAKARTA: Coal price is estimated to exceed US$130 per ton on high demand and this years coal supply problem.Subsequent to Japans quake and tsunami, most countries are rather reluctant to construct nuclear power generator as they prefer to use coal to replace oil and nuclear energy, said APBI Executive Director Supriatna Suhala. On the other side, as he added, weather condition in several coal producer countries has ruined the supply and boosting coal price.Seeing the market development, the price probably exceeds US$130 per ton, he said when being contacted by Bisnis last week.Further, coal industry in domestic market is still prospective this year although demands from developed countries will decrease as the supplies have been fulfilled by other country producers.According to him coal export will still grow positively, primarily backed by the improved mining infrastructure that in the end propels coal mining industry growth. We urge government to grant particular incentive to investors thus they are willing to inject their capital to coal industry. He further added that this years Indonesia coal mining market will be mainly dominated by China and India as those two countries require more low-calorie coal for new power generators. Some other Asian counties also need this low calorie coal.Coal export demand to Japan declines after Japans largest quake and tsunami. Yet, he projects the demand will raise even surpassing the demand in previous year.Several nuclear power generators in Japan experience some problems, creating more opportunities to shift the attention into coal.APBI projects Indonesia coal production to reach 456 million ton by 2015 or higher than governments target at 398 million ton.Of such volume, coal export potentially totals 326 million ton or higher than governments target at 250 million ton. In the meantime, domestic consumption may amount to 130 million ton or lower than governments target at 148 million ton. (t02/wiw)
